In 2024, new technology, how people use websites, and new ideas about design are all shaping how website designers in Toronto and everywhere else work on the web.\n\nIn this blog post, we will delve into the latest UX trends that are influencing web design practices, offering insights and inspiration for web designers in Toronto and globally.\n

   #1. Micro-Interactions:

\nElevating User Engagement Micro-interactions have become a cornerstone of modern web design, adding layers of interactivity and delight to user experiences. From subtle hover effects to interactive animations triggered by user actions, micro-interactions serve to engage users on a more visceral level. In 2024, expect to see website designers using micro-interactions not just for embellishment but as integral components of the user journey, guiding users through interfaces with finesse and personality.\n

  #2. Personalized Experiences:

\nTailoring the Web to Individual Users Personalization has long been hailed as a game-changer in digital experiences, and its importance continues to grow in 2024. Leveraging data insights and AI-powered algorithms, websites can now deliver highly personalized content, recommendations, and interactions tailored to each user’s preferences and behavior. From dynamically adjusting content based on past interactions to offering personalized product recommendations, personalized experiences are redefining user expectations and driving engagement across the web.\n

  #3. Voice User Interfaces (VUIs):

\nEmbracing Conversational Experiences With the rising popularity of voice assistants and smart speakers, voice user interfaces (VUIs) are emerging as a key trend in web design. In 2024, expect to see more websites incorporating voice-driven interactions, allowing users to navigate interfaces, search for information, and perform actions using natural language commands. From voice-enabled search bars to conversational chatbots, VUIs offer a more intuitive and hands-free alternative to traditional input methods, catering to users’ growing appetite for seamless, frictionless experiences.\n

 #4. Inclusive Design:

\nInclusivity has rightly taken center stage in the world of web design, with an increasing emphasis on creating experiences that are accessible to users of all abilities. In 2024, expect to see greater adoption of inclusive design practices among website designers in Toronto and beyond, ensuring that websites are usable and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their physical or cognitive limitations. This includes adhering to accessibility standards such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and W3C Compliance.\n\nDid you know that approximately 15.5% of the world’s population lives with some form of disability, according to the World Health Organization (WHO)? In Ontario alone, over 2 million individuals report having a disability, and this number is expected to rise as the population ages. With such a significant portion of the population affected, it’s imperative for businesses to prioritize accessibility in their web design efforts.\n\nResearch also indicates that accessible websites tend to perform better across various metrics. For instance, a study by WebAIM found that accessible websites have 35% more unique site visitors on average compared to those with accessibility issues. Moreover, ensuring accessibility can lead to increased customer satisfaction and loyalty, as users appreciate websites that are easy to use and navigate.\n\nBy investing in inclusive design practices and ensuring AODA compliance, businesses not only meet legal requirements but also tap into a larger market and improve user satisfaction. In today’s digital age, where the internet serves as a primary gateway to information and services, accessible web design is not just a moral imperative but a strategic business decision.\n\nAODA requires that organizations ensure their websites are accessible to people with disabilities, including those with visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, or other impairments. This involves designing websites in a way that accommodates various assistive technologies such as screen readers, magnifiers, and voice recognition software. From implementing proper heading structures and alternative text for images to designing keyboard-friendly interfaces and accommodating screen readers, inclusive design is not just a moral imperative but a fundamental aspect of good UX design.\n

#5. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR):

\nImmersive Experiences Take Center Stage As AR and VR technologies continue to mature, they’re finding their way into the realm of web design, unlocking new possibilities for immersive storytelling and interactive experiences. In 2024, expect to see more websites leveraging AR and VR to create captivating experiences that blur the lines between the digital and physical worlds. Whether it’s showcasing products in 3D, offering virtual tours of real estate properties, or gamifying learning experiences through interactive simulations, AR and VR are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on the web.\n

 Conclusion:

\nAs we look ahead to the future of web design in 2024 and beyond, one thing is clear: the landscape is constantly evolving, driven by technological advancements, shifting user behaviors, and changing design philosophies. By embracing the latest UX trends and integrating them thoughtfully into their designs, web designers can craft experiences that go beyond mere functionality and intuitiveness, offering truly engaging and immersive encounters. Whether employing micro-interactions to captivate users on a deeper level, tailoring experiences to individual preferences, or implementing inclusive design practices for universal accessibility, the potential to enhance the user journey on the web knows no bounds.”},{“component”:”hc_pt_post_informations”,”id”:”f0Z4n”,”css_classes”:””,”custom_css_classes”:””,”custom_css_styles”:””,”post_type_slug”:””,”position”:”left”,”date”:true,”categories”:true,”author”:true,”share”:true}]}],”section_settings”:””},”scripts”:{},”css”:{},”css_page”:””,”template_setting”:{“settings”:{“id”:”settings”}},”template_setting_top”:{},”page_setting”:{“settings”:[“lock-mode-off”]},”post_type_setting”:{“settings”:{“image”:”https://continuumdigital.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/web-designers-toronto.webp|240|407|18500″,”excerpt”:””,”extra_1″:””,”extra_2″:””,”icon”:{“icon”:””,”icon_style”:””,”icon_image”:””}}}}

It can work wonders for your company, now that majority of the population has shifted to doing almost everything online. It works as a vital tool to create customer outreach and provide your company with that professional look.\n

Here are 10 actionable tips for your website that’ll help you convert traffic into leads consistently

\n \n

#1. What’s your end game?

\nBefore you begin designing your website, first and foremost ask yourself, what’s your motivation for this website? What do you wish it conveys to a person about your company? With these things in mind, define a niche or a theme for your site.\n

#2.Minimalistic aesthetic is in

\nProfessionalism is key. Flat colors – whites, blues, greys – suit the impression you’d want to make. A simple, neat website helps your customer find whatever information they need relatively easier. Include tons of whitespace to reduce distractions and direct the user’s attention to where you want it to be.\n

#3. The customer is always right

\nThe best advice you could get while constructing a website is to keep your user in mind. Be it website navigation, loading speeds or placing elements, optimise everything to make the site as user-friendly as possible\n

#4. Make it SEO optimized

\nThis shouldn’t come as a surprise. Investing in good SEO could make or break your digital marketing campaigns. The objective is more visibility, higher customer outreach, increased traffic and market authority. Include keywords so that your page pops up in local search results and Google Featured Snippets.\n

#5. Visual learners

\nImages are the most eye-catching and it would be a shame if you didn’t display all your beautiful projects front and centre on your website. A galleria section would be wonderful too as it sets a precedent of what the customer can expect from your company.\n

#6. Trust the process

\nWhile it’s important to display your finished projects, don’t forget to show some pics of ongoing ones. Bringing the user along on the journey creates a subconscious feeling of trust.\n

#7. Word of mouth

\nIn the age of online reviews, people inadvertently trust customer testimonials. It offers the user unbiased opinions about the company and its services from a place of authenticity. So include unedited previous customer testimonials.\n

#8. Blogging all the way

\nContent creation is at its prime. Blogs help increase visibility, domain authority and create opportunities for your page to show up on several search results, especially Google Featured Snippets. They display know-how and allow you to showcase your specialization, garnering the attention of the right crowd.\n

#9. Solid numbers

\nAnother eye-catching piece of data is statistics. Saying “x projects were completed in the last year” or “Project completed within Y days” provides customers with concrete (excuse the pun) information\n

#10. Check, check everything

\nLook over everything before you publish your website on the web, for everyone to see. Common errors, while bound to happen, give a very unprofessional vibe that you definitely want to avoid. Make sure your pages are complete, your contact information is readily available and there are no spelling or grammatical mistakes.\n\nAnd lastly, keep growing. Don’t expect to be one and done with your website. It is something that should be ever-evolving, just like your company. With trends changing at the drop of a hat, it is almost a requirement. Keep looking for ways to better the user experience and provide utmost satisfaction. But don’t be afraid to start working on your website right away. Hope these tips provide effective improvements to your company’s website. If you run into any obstacles or require further assistance for your construction company website, we’re always happy to help.\n\n “},{“component”:”hc_pt_post_informations”,”id”:”hOA1r”,”css_classes”:””,”custom_css_classes”:””,”custom_css_styles”:””,”post_type_slug”:””,”position”:”left”,”date”:true,”categories”:true,”author”:true,”share”:true}]}],”section_settings”:””},”scripts”:{},”css”:{},”css_page”:””,”template_setting”:{“settings”:{“id”:”settings”}},”template_setting_top”:{},”page_setting”:{“settings”:[“lock-mode-off”]},”post_type_setting”:{“settings”:{“image”:”https://continuumdigital.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/website-design-for-construction.webp|214|363|18125″,”excerpt”:””,”extra_1″:””,”extra_2″:””,”icon”:{“icon”:””,”icon_style”:””,”icon_image”:””}}}}

And want to make sure about the steps to follow that do not impact SEO after launch.\n\nOr just switching to another brand-new domain because of one of the following reasons\n

SEO Checklist to Avoid Big Drops in SEO traffic whilst revamping and or transferring existing site to a new domain

\nBefore beginning the redesigning process, a site owner sometimes neglects to consider SEO difficulties. This is a major blunder and will cost you a bomb. Many of your past SEO strategies won’t work on your new site unless you follow a few things before proceeding.\n

SEO CHECKLIST:

\n

    \n \t

  1. Back up your existing website fully along with database
  2. \n \t

  3. Backup onpage SEO
  4. \n \t

  5. Examine existing copywriting and identify the pages that are no longer valid
  6. \n \t

  7. Gather benchmark data
  8. \n \t

  9. Use temporary URL or Staging Server URL for designing, migrating, and testing a new website.
  10. \n \t

  11. Consider optimizing Information Architecture whilst redesigning.
  12. \n \t

  13. Optimize the outdated content where needed.
  14. \n \t

  15. Put together URL redirection plan and do it cautiously.
  16. \n \t

  17. Target improving page speed.
  18. \n \t

  19. Ensure migration of Page Tile, Description, and Heading Tags intact as possible on the new website
  20. \n \t

  21. Review and make sure both external and internal links are working.
  22. \n \t

  23. Assess website responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility.
  24. \n \t

  25. Fully test website once again upon completion to go live.
  26. \n \t

  27. After going live to the new domain, make sure to verify new domain property with the same ID used for Google Search Console
  28. \n \t

  29. Setup change of address in Google Search Console
  30. \n \t

  31. Submit the new updated XML Sitemap to Google Search Engine
  32. \n \t

  33. Work on Off page SEO and update new domain link where applicable.
  34. \n

\n

Backup your existing website

\nBefore making any modifications to your site, you should have a copy made by your developer. So that you can refer it back when in need to perhaps find an old link or meta of a landing page etc. to fix SEO even after going live with the new website. Back up your data to a separate staging URL. Remember to keep this staging URL hidden from the search engines.\n

Backup On-Page SEO

\nMust backup all pages Meta titles, description, heading tags, internal links, image tags, page URLs, etc., all important onpage SEO items.\n\nExamine all the links and metadata of your existing website. This will aid in the detection of broken internal or external links, the marking of outdated content pages, and the examination of the title tag, image tags, etc. You need to make sure all of these are safely migrated to a new website with possible better fixes / optimization.\n

Examine existing copywriting and identify the pages to scrap that are no longer valid

\nMany websites’ organic visibility is fueled by content. 82% of marketers employ content marketing, and it is the foundation of many successful businesses.\n\nA better responsive website redesign can boost your content efforts to new heights, but first you must have a clear image of what is your SEO standing. Using your statistics, conduct a full content audit to establish your most important pages that derive good traffic, determine which pages are irrelevant or obsolete that needs update, and determine which pages should be redirected or merged with other pages.\n\nThis is an ideal opportunity to delete some of your outdated pages. Is there any information on your website about expired promotional offers? Are there any landing pages on your site that are no longer in use? Make a list of them and cross them off your list of things to get rid of.\n\nBut be cautious. Even if a page is no longer active, it may still have good backlinks pointing and deriving organic traffic. Before eliminating any page, be sure this isn’t the case. If an old page is still receiving a lot of traffic, updating it makes more sense instead of removing it. If you decide to remove any page, make sure you are redirecting that old URL to the relevant page of the new website, so you don’t lose the SEO.\n

Gather Benchmark Data

\nGather and save essential website statistics in advance, such as your site’s focus keywords, pages ranking on SERP, organic traffic, indexed pages, conversion rate, and revenue. This information will help you understand how well your new site performs once it goes live.\n\nTip: To analyze this data, you’ll need to utilize your implemented Google Analytics and Search Console. Consider using a premium service such as SEMrush to get some meaningful site audit reports.\n

Use temporary URL or Staging Server URL for designing and testing a new website

\nIn most cases, the development team will keep your site in a temporary URL during the pre-launch phase. It allows for more effective teamwork. However, search engines must be prohibited from accessing this development version.\n\nTip: You can set up robot.txt to prevent your site from being indexed.\n

Information Architecture should be optimized whilst redesigning

\nOver 60% of consumers say they abandon a website because of poor navigation. Even though website navigation and information architecture (IA) are not the same thing, your IA should guide the structure of your site navigation.\n\nThe way you organize content in your sitemap is referred to as information architecture (IA). Your website’s navigation is how you structure it.\n\nOn the first visit, 38% of consumers will examine the layout and navigational links of a website.\n

Optimize the outdated content

\nYou should have a decent idea of what content you want to keep after performing your content audit. If you put in the time and effort to do your audit, you’ll almost certainly have identified some places for improvement for some of your finest pages.\n\nA website redesign is a great way to freshen outdated information and breathe new vitality into it. By itself, this method can boost organic traffic by up to 106 percent.\n

Put together URL redirection plan and work on it cautiously

\nThe structure of your website will be altered whilst revamping your website. Some pages will be relocated, while others will be removed entirely.\n\nIn the world of SEO, tiny tweaks can have significant impact. According to 60% of marketers, SEO and content marketing are their primary sources of leads.\n\nYou’ll lose not only your referral traffic, but also the page and domain authority that those backlinks have already built up if you don’t use URL redirects in a better way. Make sure your SEO / Development team focus enough and work on all existing URLs without missing any single URL.\n\nIf possible, keep the URL structure same as is on current website to avoid major SEO keywords ranking drop for the important pages.\n

Focus on improving Page Speed

\nThe importance of page speed cannot be overstated. Everyone has experienced the frustration of waiting for a website to load for an eternity, and you know what happens when that happens: users leave and hunt for information elsewhere.\n\nPeople nowadays expect things to happen faster – thanks to technology and dealing with a website is no exception. If a website takes more than 4 seconds to load, 25% of visitors abandon it, and a one-second delay results in a 16 percent loss in consumer satisfaction.\n\nThis is something you should think about from the beginning of your redesign, and you should make it a priority for your developer.\n

Ensure Page Tile, Description, and Heading Tags are intact on the new website

\nDo you have adequate title tags and descriptions on all of your site’s pages? Are you making proper use of heading tags? These are some things to keep in mind when creating new pages.\n\nTip: A title tag should be between 50 and 60 characters long and include keywords relevant to the page. In SERPs, the meta description appears beneath the blue link. In 160 characters, it should offer a succinct summary of the page. Any description that is longer than this will be cut off.\n

Review both External and Internal Links

\nIt’s a good idea to double-check that all of your external links are referring to the correct locations (i.e. not broken). Also, as your URLs change, double-check that your internal links are still working properly.\n

Assess website responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility

\nIn the mobile first era, you need to make sure the new site design is fully responsive before going live. Checking if the site is responsive is one of the most crucial tasks in the redesign process. The new design should be tested on possible all devices to make sure the site is properly accessible for the majority of browsers and devices.\n\nFirefox offers a \”Responsive Design Mode\” that you may use to see how your website will appear and act on various screen sizes and devices. Firefox should be used to access your website. Then select Menu > Tools > Responsive Design Mode from the drop-down menu. Use the Ctrl + Shift + M (Cmd + Opt + M in Mac) keyboard shortcut instead. There are some automated tools available as well that allows to test the site rapidly.\n

Fully test website once again upon completion to go live

\nInternal links account for 0.27 percent of broken links on the internet, whereas external connections account for 1.37 percent. Whilst testing your website after a redesign, you must revisit all links before launch and reassess all the points above to make sure the new site launch does not hurt your SEO big way and eventually improvise rankings and gain the authority back if it’s a new domain.\n\nMake sure you launch your new site only after enough testing on all fronts, because the flaws might have serious impacts.\n

Verify new domain property and setup change of address

\nNow that your new website is launched, you should right away verify new domain property with the same ID / account registered at Google Search Console and also setup change of address.\n

Submit the new updated sitemap

\nYour website’s XML sitemap serves as a road map. It’s important to submit the updated sitemap to Google and other search important search engines you focus.\n\nYou can prepare the sitemap manually by adding each URL of your new site, or you can use an SEO plugin like Yoast to handle it for you if it’s a WordPress website design.\n\nGoogle’s crawlers may completely ignore your site if your XML sitemap is incorrect.\n

Continue working on Offpage SEO:

\nYour SEO consultant must have a plan ready beforehand for the Off-page SEO update if it was implemented for your current domain. You probably want to quickly update the new domain for important social sites from for better brand recognition and discuss with your SEO consultant for the rest of the submitted or new backlinks action plan to improve new domain’s authority.\n

Final Words

\nAfter you’ve completed everything and your site has gone live, keep an eye on how your new site’s organic traffic and rankings improves over the next few months. By looking at this, you can see if any additional optimization for your new site is required.\n\nYour site will undergo numerous significant modifications because of a redesign or migration. Even if you’re cautious and observe all the regulations, you will notice that your search rank has slipped a little initially. Don’t worry. Keep investigating the data to see if you missed out on anything. Also, make sure to adhere to all the items in the checklist. You’ll be up and running in no time and will also be able to see your improved rankings in couple of months or sooner.\n\nIf you’re someone who’s looking to redesign or revamp your website and are worried about your SEO rankings, we at Continuum Digital can help you safely do the same without hurting your SEO and reach. While doing all this, we make sure our expertise in the field only benefits your project but also helps you with ways to scale up.”},{“component”:”hc_pt_post_informations”,”id”:”F86aE”,”css_classes”:””,”custom_css_classes”:””,”custom_css_styles”:””,”post_type_slug”:””,”position”:”left”,”date”:true,”categories”:true,”author”:true,”share”:true}]}],”section_settings”:””},”scripts”:{},”css”:{},”css_page”:””,”template_setting”:{“settings”:{“id”:”settings”}},”template_setting_top”:{},”page_setting”:{“settings”:[“lock-mode-off”]},”post_type_setting”:{“settings”:{“image”:”https://continuumdigital.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/how-to-redesign-your-website-or.webp|214|363|18126″,”excerpt”:””,”extra_1″:””,”extra_2″:””,”icon”:{“icon”:””,”icon_style”:””,”icon_image”:””}}}}

The platform has come a long way since its inception in 2003, and it has now established itself as a solid web development solution for professional websites and e-commerce enterprises.\n\nIt should come as no surprise that this platform currently powers over 43.3% of all websites . Why does WordPress stand out?

\nWordPress is the most popular of the three most widely used website building platforms, followed by Joomla and Drupal. All are free to download and use, come with a variety of add-ons for specialized functionality, and may be tailored to meet the specific needs of individual users.\n\nHowever, both Joomla and Drupal necessitate a certain amount of technical knowledge and familiarity with HTML CSS and PHP. WordPress allows expert users to operate at that level as well, but unlike Joomla and Drupal, it allows beginners to rapidly set up a basic site without knowing any code or programming.\n\nRead along to know why WordPress standouts amongst the rest and what makes it the popular choice.\n

With the custom designed theme, you can create appealing websites that reflect the company’s brand and provide an impressive online presence that helps to increase conversion.\n\nWordPress programmers can also create custom fields as per the need so that administrators can easily update content of the custom pages when needed.\n

#5. Excellent Scalability

\nBecause of WordPress’s exceptional scalability, the site may expand in tandem with the business. Thousands of pages or blog entries can be added to the site without affecting its performance. This makes WordPress an excellent platform for firms who anticipate significant future expansion.\n\nHowever, if you will be looking to enhance features of the websites, it is advisable to consult WordPress experts in advance so the site can be planned well in advanced accordingly or you may choose the right framework for your website accordingly.\n

#8. Community Assistance

\nThe most exciting and valuable element of WordPress is its extensive community support. WordPress boasts the world’s largest developer community. While building websites on the platform, developers can choose from a wide range of plugins, themes, and tools. When developers need help, the community is available to assist them.\n

What is Web Accessibility?

\nDigital accessibility/Web Accessibility is the practice of making digital documents, web and mobile apps accessible to everyone including people with disabilities.  It is about providing equal access and opportunity to people – that includes people with visual, auditory, motor, speech, and cognitive disabilities, and also the elderly.\n\nSimply put – it is the idea of making technology accessible to everyone, with or without disabilities, by removing any barriers whatsoever.\n\nAccessibility for people with disabilities is considered a human right by Canadians.  It should be a collective responsibility of all businesses to ensure accessibility for all and Canada wants to be a leader on this front.\n\nWeb designers and developers worldwide have started giving a massive priority to accessibility in their designs. Accessibility is not an afterthought anymore, but rather one of the primary design concerns for any product. Instead of a feature, accessibility has become a must-have for websites and brands.\n

Why should you make your website more accessible?

\nDigital accessibility is also a regulatory requirement. It is not difficult to build accessible websites.  Aside from legal and ethical reasons, an accessible website is a great way to improve social responsibility and a smart business move.\n\nMaking your website accessible, opens your business to a broader customer base.  When sites are accessibility optimized, they are easier to navigate and simpler to understand for all users.  Accessible websites are also found easier by search engines.  All in all, it is a positive experience for all users.  Accessible websites work like a magnet on people with disabilities simply because they can be accessed.  It is best to think about accessibility from the start of a project.\n\nAlso making your website accessible doesn’t strictly mean catering to the disabled.  It also means catering to an increasing number of senior citizens because seniors are a segment with strong purchasing power.  When websites neglect the accessibility aspect, they are turning away possible loyal customers or users.\n

How do you make your website accessible?

\nLegislations have been passed across Canada and all over the world to ensure website accessibility. The Accessible Canada Act, which became law in 2019, has made it mandatory for government organizations and companies in the federally regulated private sector to make their services accessible. And website accessibility standards are a vital part of this act. Before this, in 2005, Ontario brought out the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA). The act made it mandatory for private and non-profit organizations and public sector organizations to make their website compliant to WCAG 2.0 level AA by 2021. The act has been a major driving force in enforcing accessibility standards for web design in Toronto and other parts of Ontario.\n

Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA)

\nAODA was introduced as a follow-up to the Ontarians with Disability Act. The act is for businesses in Ontario and has web design guidelines for Toronto and other regions. The earlier act didn’t specify deadlines or penalties, and AODA was introduced to bring more teeth. The act specifies fines up to $50,000 per day for individuals and up to $100,000 for companies not complying with the act. As mentioned, AODA website accessibility standards are based on WCAG guidelines from W3C.\n\nWith an experienced team and the right guidance, we can build accessible websites or apps which could otherwise be a tricky process. Multiple accessibility standards have been developed by organizations over the years. The most prominent and well known among them is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) published by the W3C. WCAG is the globally accepted criteria that defines what makes a site accessible. Developers, testers, app owners, and accessibility experts from around the world rely on these standards for proper accessibility testing direction.\n\nThe guidelines were framed around 4 principles – POUR.  Accessible sites and apps must be :\n

    \n \t

  • Perceivable (all website visitors should have a similar user experience regardless of their ability). For example, an image should have alt text and a video should have closed captions.
  • \n \t

  • Operable (all controls and interactive elements are usable). For example, make sure that every action that can be performed using a mouse can be achieved using the keyboard alone
  • \n \t

  • Understandable (content should be clear, without confusion). Always let users know where they are and how to navigate the website easily.  Create alternative routes to suit different requirements – like a “skip to main content” link.
  • \n \t

  • Robust (the site should be accessible through a wide range of devices using assistive technologies, such as a screen reader).
  • \n

\n

Conclusion

\nWebsite accessibility permits you a global audience, and therefore, you must style it in step with international places.  Whereas there are no clear-cut tips to the current aspect, following WCAG guidelines will assist you in making your website AODA-compliant. These guidelines highlight effective practices in AODA compliance, such as a way to design the layout, the font and background color to use, and the kind of audio and video content to incorporate. Associate degree AODA-compliant website may be a win-win for all people with disabilities to access the content they need. On the other hand, businesses make more traffic, more clicks, and consequently more business.\n\nAbove all, Accessibility supports social inclusion for people with disabilities.  Continuum can help you with affordable, effortless, and Compliant Web Accessibility Services.\n\nGet started today!  Contact us at info@continuumsoft.ca“},{“component”:”hc_pt_post_informations”,”id”:”UXZCV”,”css_classes”:””,”custom_css_classes”:””,”custom_css_styles”:””,”post_type_slug”:””,”position”:”left”,”date”:true,”categories”:true,”author”:true,”share”:true}]}],”section_settings”:””},”scripts”:{},”css”:{},”css_page”:””,”template_setting”:{“settings”:{“id”:”settings”}},”template_setting_top”:{},”page_setting”:{“settings”:[“lock-mode-off”]},”post_type_setting”:{“settings”:{“image”:”https://continuumdigital.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/what-is-accessibility.webp|214|363|18106″,”excerpt”:””,”extra_1″:””,”extra_2″:””,”icon”:{“icon”:””,”icon_style”:””,”icon_image”:””}}}}

Which is better – Custom Designed Website or Template Website?

\nPeople mark 2020 in redbut that is not the case with us at Continuum. The key learning that we have taken from our experiences in 2020 is that #digital transformation is no longer a choice – it is a necessity to ensure long term success.  It was, in fact, a critical reason for survival for many. We have worked with a lot of clients who have realized that the strategy for growth is creating an online web presence and they are willing to invest in the digital medium to build their presence actively.\n\nHere, I would like to quote a conversation I had with a potential client.  This is how it went –\n\nContinuum – What made you realize that you need a website?\n\nClient – Earlier we were focused only on the traditional selling approach.  We had sales reps who would personally touch base with existing clients and bring in new clients.  These activities were time-consuming and often required travelling, which cost sales professionals valuable time that could be spent in building more relationships.  Also, now because of the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic, interactions with our existing clients have become limited and it is almost impossible to target new clients.\n\nOur analytics have proved that we are losing on getting new clients due to lack of our online presence whilst some of our competitors who had already moved to online store are doing much better than us in terms of attracting new customers.   All this makes it very important for us to go digital now.\n\nContinuum – And indeed, you have made the right decision.\n\nIf you own a small business and you have gotten this far without a website or digital presence – It is very important, now more than ever, to go digital for long term success and to invest in a website for your business.  It makes you look professional, trustworthy, and authentic as it establishes your presence in the industry.  It is a great platform to showcase your tools and services.  A well optimized website also helps attract new customers through search engines.\n\nNow that you have decided that you need a web presence, what kind of a website would you like to create – a custom website or a template website?\n\nClient – Could you highlight the difference between the two and advise which one would be the right fit for us now and for our business in the future?\n\nContinuum – Okay, there are a lot of considerations before answering this question.\n\nLet’s talk about a few stats first:\n\nPeople make snap judgments and that is true for websites also.  Research and studies suggest that it takes only 0.05 seconds for a user to form a first impression/opinion about your website and that determines whether they’ll stay or leave on your web page.\n\n94% of users mention poor design is the primary reason why they do not trust certain websites.  How a website looks, how it performs, and how easy is it to navigate – those are the things people see right away.  All the thought process that you put in creating the content and the messaging – all that is secondary.\n\nSo, design, speed, and responsiveness are the most crucial elements of a website followed by the content.\n\nNext let’s talk about what exactly a custom website and a template website is?\n\nTemplate Website – Pre-designed website preloaded with standard pages.  They are the best option when budget is a factor and you need something now to go up and running and you have limited content/images to showcase.\n\nCustom website – It is custom made or made to order.  From the layout, navigational structure, graphic placement to functionality – all of these elements are designed with unique specifications.   It includes creating everything that goes into creating a site to reflect a unique brand identity driven by strategic marketing plans.  Custom-made websites look better, do more, and accomplish specific business goals.\n

Now that we know what exactly a custom website and a template website is, how do we decide which is the best fit for you?

\nWe need to analyse 4 factors to help you decide which one would work for your business and why:\n

#1. Design

\nWith custom sites – the design is made to order.  It means that the designer can take into consideration your business objectives and goals, ideal clients, and customer experience that you wish to render visually and functionally. With custom design, you can stand out and get a website that has you drop your jaw in awe.\n\nWith templates – you have to fit your business objectives and goals into a mould/template that is already there.  If you are looking for something basic that will help you go up and running, then a template website is for you.\n

#2. Scalability / Future Growth

\nWith a custom website, the designer can take into account how you are really going to grow in the future and what types of services you plan on adding and really what your future goals will be.  They can build the site to grow with you, and you are really building a foundation for the future. It also helps you to get into deeper and mature web building thought process to have a more explicit goal.  For example, if you wish to convert an existing website into an eCommerce website a few months down the line, the developer can keep in mind the scalability and define an initial framework based on the plan so that in future eCommerce integration becomes much more easier.\n\nWith a template website, you can create a website on ready CMS platforms like Wix, Shopify, WordPress, etc., with a good appearance for a shorter span. It addresses any short term and immediate needs.  These are easy moving options and more of a temporary solution with lesser long-term visibility.\n

#3. Professionalism & Support

\nWhen you are going with a template, which is always available with CMS platforms, you do have some built in support through them, but it is limited.  Especially when you purchase a template for your WordPress or Wix website, and you are self-installing it, you really don’t have any other technical support so youtube and tutorials are going to be your best friend.  Unless you have some experience in building a website, it is a time-consuming exercise.\n\nWith a custom site, you have experts on board.  They know their job thoroughly well and can WOW clients with the latest trends. They know what works and what doesn’t work.  There is a consultative approach with an excellent service that includes timely review, sharing the creator’s thoughts, attracting the right people, and putting things in perspective with coherent thought processes. Step-by-step planning, wireframes, design, development, copywriting, photography, testing, and optimization are time consuming but ensure the best outcome.\n

#4. Return on Investment

\nCustom website might take a little longer time and higher investment, but it is a money-making tool. Selling services and products digitally through a website design and UI that was built with your goals and your business objectives in mind generates an impact and eventually results in lead generation. It can literally change the lead generation curve.  \n\nThe template is less compatible with giving returns when applying digital strategies. If you need a quick fix to commence digital presence, you can indeed consider ready-made template.\n\nThe shelf life of a template site is much shorter than a custom site, so sometimes you have to ask yourself – is it really cheaper.  The average use of a template site is 1.5 years whereas the average use of a custom site is anywhere from 3 to 5 years. You might actually end up paying more with a template site for the extra technical support for customization and the updates.\n

Final thoughts

\nWith all that said, we @continuum don’t always suggest custom websites.  There are, however, times when a template is just fine for what you are looking for.  There are two main advantages of a custom website – one is the cost and the other is the timeline.  Because you are not doing a full design and planning and wireframing for a template website, you can typically get that done in a half or a third of the period of time. When thinking long term, with business goals aligned and higher returns on the investment as the focus, consider a custom website.\n\nIf you think you have a limited budget and want to establish a digital presence, templates can be a great way to go to get you up and running. But if you can invest the time and more money into the project and you want a higher quality website that is designed to create a better experience for your potential clients – then we definitely recommend a quality custom web design.\n\nI hope that all this information was helpful. If you wish to consult on how to go about it, reach out to us and we will guide you and help you reach a strategic decision!\n\nIf you have any questions, please comment, and please like and share this if this was helpful for you.”},{“component”:”hc_pt_post_informations”,”id”:”7qubu”,”css_classes”:””,”custom_css_classes”:””,”custom_css_styles”:””,”post_type_slug”:””,”position”:”left”,”date”:true,”categories”:false,”author”:true,”share”:true}]}],”section_settings”:””},”scripts”:{},”css”:{},”css_page”:””,”template_setting”:{“settings”:{“id”:”settings”}},”template_setting_top”:{},”page_setting”:{“settings”:[“lock-mode-off”]},”post_type_setting”:{“settings”:{“image”:”https://continuumdigital.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/custom-design-vs-ready-theme.png|214|363|14481″,”excerpt”:”People mark 2020 in red, but that is not the case with us at Continuum.”,”extra_1″:””,”extra_2″:””,”icon”:{“icon”:””,”icon_style”:””,”icon_image”:””}}}}

So to avoid losing customers it’s essential to convert your website to a format suitable for mobile viewing.\n\nSo now the issue arises what is a mobile-friendly website? A site would classify as a mobile-friendly site if it has the following parameters:\n

  • If it has a larger and easy-to-read text.
  • \n \t

  • If the pages load faster.
  • \n \t

  • If it has mobile-friendly layout/UI and is easy to navigate.

\nSome people think that creating or converting a site to responsive web design in toronto is a costly effort. But we beg to differ here. We will show you how the investment is worth every dollar of your investment into a trusted professional like Continuum Software Solutions. Some points which will highlight the importance of mobile-friendly websites are listed below:\n

1. Rapid increase in mobile devices

\nThe sudden and sharp rise of inexpensive Smartphones has greatly contributed to the high volume of data consumed on phones. According to some recent reports, mobile category is the largest in terms of websites accessed through it and is also rising rapidly day by day. So if you want to increase your brand’s revenue, it’s imperative that you convert it immediately.\n

2. Mobile users are a different breed altogether

\nMobile users are quite impulsive and surveys show they spent more than money per purchase compared to desktop consumers. Also mobile users want information in small and easily accessible bites. By making the site intuitive, a large chunk of impulsive buyers can be captured.\n

3. Age of interactive content

\nWhile the big companies are getting their act together and having separate mobile-friendly websites, the small businesses still lag far behind. The recent culture of interactive marketing keeps the consumer’s satisfaction at the top. If the website is not user-friendly, it would provide a negative image of the company and drastically erode brand value.\n

4. Makes total business sense

\nThe maturing mobile market in Canada can be summed up in three interesting statistics\n\n1 Smartphone users spend close to 2 hours 20 minutes a day consuming media and other content on their smartphones, on average\n2 Smartphone ownership jumped from 55% (2014) to 68% (2015) to 76% (2016).\n3 From 65% (2014), the number of people using mobile to pay bills has spiked to 85% (2016)\n\nThis means that more and more of the purchase decisions are now happening on the mobile. Also, Canadians are quickly opening up to buying or transacting using the mobile. For marketers, this ‘mobile-first’ philosophy is a significant shift that has to be embraced at the earliest to maintain the competitive edge.\n\nYou can sample some of our mobile-friendly creations below and feel free to call with your queries and doubts.
